Wa-Say Healing Centre hosted a two-day workshop on Traditional Parenting on September 12 & 13, 2017
The workshop was attended by those who work in Head Start Programs.
On Day One, Elder Allison Cox-Stoneypoint presented on a mother’s role in traditional parenting. Day Two, Elder Frank Walker presented on a father’s role in traditional parenting.
Topics discussed included the effects of residential schools and parenting, traditional birthing , soft spot teachings, tiginaagan, moss bag, traditional swing, seven Sacred Teachings, and a history of Traditional Parenting. The workshop was presented so the participants could use the presentations as facilitators within their own programs and to take back to their respective communities and bring to the young mothers within their communities.
The workshop ended in a celebration feast and certificate presentation.
